Custom category property queries

Hi,I've defined custom content types and some of the content properties are category-typed (d:category).How do I query a category-typed custom property field?The following query only seems to match category values in the cm:categories field, not in my custom propertyATH:"cm:generalclassifiable//cm

bump, I'm also curious about this.

From this wiki page, it sounds like there isn't much one can do with a custom category:

There is no support for creating categories in this classification via the UI; as it only supports cm:generalclassifiable. Nor will advanced search support selecting categories from this classification. It is possible to extend the cm:category type, but again, management of such types will not be supported via the UI, web services and utility methods on the CategoryService.

I'd love to just add two more fields besides just "Description" to a category node, but if this is not going to work is my only choice to create a custom "content" object (with blank content) that mimics a category and has a 1:n relationship with other nodes or with other content?
