So it is a known problem and based on the thread you pointed out - is it safe to assume that this functionality is not yet availble in the HEAD of the latest 1.3? Given that I am working with the community edition what is the time lag for fixes to move from the paid version to the unpaid verison?

The time lag depends on our release schedule - of course high priority bugs like this one will come sooner!
