Forgive me for saying so, but more than half your post seems irrelevant to the issue, which could be summarized as:

Microsoft suggested workaround in KB888123 for WebDAV client issue on WinXP x64 doesn't work.

In any case, I'd suggest installing Fiddler2 or WireShark on the client to get a network trace and try to see what's going on - i.e. compare the working case to the Microsoft buggy case.

I noticed that forgot to delete a section I copied from my other post (e.g. Purpose); I wanted to use the formatting from that post, so I copied and pasted a few sections, but apparently forgot to delete all of what I copied. Sorry for that.

As for the rest of the post, I feel that stating platform/environment/network, my objective, my issue and what I've tried so far to fix it are VERY relevant. How can we begin to address a problem if we don't know all of the circumstance that it appears under? Further, if others experience this problem, find this thread, and read through the first part, they can quickly determine if my problem can help them.

I will investigate Fiddler2, but I can not use WireShark. Again, I can post my config if need be, but I was hoping someone would quickly post something along the lines of "oh yea, I had that problem too; here's what I did to fix it".

Anyone?

It was the opening paragraph that wasn't making sense - thanks for clearing it up.

It sounds like there's a common configuration issue plaguing your particular set-up. It would be great to get to the bottom of it, but it sounds like you're rather limited in experimenting with changing client settings due to the group policies in place. Is there no way you can set-up another PC or Virtual Machine with which you can try turning down the policy restrictions?

Yea, sorry about that first paragraph. As I said I wanted to keep the formatting (e.g. font size, bold, underline) from a previous thread, but forgot to delete the section I copied before I posted.

Unfortunately, no, I can not setup a new PC or Virtual Machine without the policy restrictions. Security is a double-edged sword, so it appears.

I have to believe someone out there has at least WebDAV working in an environment similar to mine.

Anyone?

I am working with port 80 + 8080, OpenSuse 10.3 and Java 1.5.0_15, but other than that, my setup is similar. I had problems initially due to name resolution problems. Once I knew about that one, all worked quite well.

There was however the on and off situation that I have to enter the password 4-5 times on initial connection (not in recent times, though)

Can you get other webdav connections outside ? Webdav ist on HTTP, so if you have internet access, you can try the alfresco demo installation, if needs be.

Yes, I CAN successfully go to http://servername:8080/alfresco/webdav to view the WebDAV folder structure.

However, I CAN NOT access the Alfresco WebDAV server using the Add Network Place Wizard (which is accessed at My Computer > My Network Places > Add a network place). I have even tried using the actual IP address of the server (instead of its name) and it still does not succeed.
