We have the same concerns here…

Backup and restore of the whole Alfresco repository doesn't seem to be a problem (using third party tools from MySQL or Linux) but indeed what if I just need to restore one specific file?

Any updates on this?

Hi

Would it be possible to replace the action behind the "Delete" icon? A possible implementation might be to move the document to be deleted into a kind of grafeyard area. You could even label it with the date on which it was "deleted" for ease of retrieval.

A script might be written that really removes the file after 5, 10, 30 (?) years.

One of the features we want to add in is "soft" delete, so that data is only marked as deleted, but not actually removed (but it may be moved to a special workspace to keep performance high).

As always, it's a question of when does it get included in the product. At the moment, that won't be in the next couple of months, but it's high on the list after then.

In regards to the soft delete feature, has it been included? (Sorry…how do i know the new features included in alfresco? is it written in some kind of document?)

What others do to handle problem of accidental delete?

Yes the soft delete feature was added in Alfresco 1.3. The latest features are always noted in the Release Notes for the version.

The Soft Delete (archived nodes) feature is the best way to restore a single file. Of course if you delete the node from the archive store then it cannot be recovered (just like if you empty your trashcan on the desktop).

There is not a specific way to recover a single file from a backed up repository. The easiest way would be to restore the entire repo from backup onto a separate machine, then Export the file you want, and Import it back into the old repo.

Hi. Some users recently just lost a whole directory it seems and we'd like to be able to retrieve it and its contents. This Soft Delete feature sounds promising however I'm not sure how it works or where this archive store is located. Or is there now an easier way to restore accidentally deleted files or directories instead of having to restore the whole repository? We are currently using community version 2.1 on a Linux box. Also, if you can point me towards any documentation that would help me go about doing restores from older versions I'd be grateful.

Logon as the admin user, go into the user console and from there into Manage Deleted Items.

Hi, I have tried using this feature but it has some problems I find hard to do a complete restore (somehow during a deleting and creating again a user, it deleted lots of files and appear in the recycle bin), my problems are:

1. I can filter enough (just user, and search by text or content) but not dates, or types (folders/documents)
2. I run the 'restore all listed files' but I doesn't restore them all, mostly the directories (parents) haven't been restored yet, so the process fails

I need a way to restore all the folder structure first so that then I can restore the files, but the only way I could do this right now would be by restoring on by one each of those folder from upper lever to lower level, but I don't know the original structure and that could take months! So…

a. is there a way to do this restore process by code? some API to be used in a webscrit, or java routine to restore this, like, first filtering by type to restore folders, then documents, by date, etc?
b. does deleting a user, delete the files it has uploaded trough webdavo or something? I don't know how this process could have been related to this files gone missing and appearing as deleted by the user

PLEASE HELP!
