Can't finish installation, alfresco is not starting

Dear fellow Alfresco user, Sorry in advance if this has already been answered, but I try several hours to search the forums.Here it is, the server is an ubuntu 8.04.1 and I'm trying to install alfresco with mysql. but when I try to check the alfresco page I have a The requested resource (/alfresco/)

The last exception in the chain is usually the one to look at first, and sure enough it's telling us what's wrong:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver

This indicates that the MySQL JDBC driver hasn't been installed correctly - you'll need to download it from MySQL (http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/5.0.html) and install the mysql-connector-java-5.0.X-bin.jar file into tomcat/common/lib.

Hi again Peter,

first thnk you I think this install has more than one problem because it seem that alfresco now connect with mysql but then there's other errors

ERROR [org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader] Context initialization failed
org.alfresco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: Bootstrap failed

ERROR [org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].[/alfresco]] Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class org.alfresco.web.app.ContextListener
org.alfresco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: Bootstrap failed

Caused by: org.alfrdesco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: Failed to create index directory

Then I found out that the owner of /var/lib/alfresco/alf_data was root instead of alfresco user

I restarted alfresco and yet another error (this easy to understand)

Table 'alfresco.applied_patch' doesn't exist

Database corrupted !!!!

So I deleted /alf_data, drop and create the database again

now alfresco starts but it needs more memory ops:

javax.faces.FacesException: PermGen space
caused by:
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: PermGen space
caused by:
javax.servlet.ServletException: PermGen space
caused by:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

so I put 512mb in the startup script

export JAVA_OPTS='-Xms512m -Xmx512m -server -Djava.io.tmpdir=/var/lib/alfresco/tmp'‍

Now alfresco starts but I still have a warning for the memory

What is the requirement for Alfresco in term of memory ?
