If you only need to restore the content itself, mount the repository via CIFS and back it up like you would any file system. Then you can restore one individual file and easily retrieve it from archive.

Thanks for responding and sorry I've taken so long to come back to this thread.

I've thought about doing it via CIFS, but I'm also interested in meta data. After all, the meta information can be equally important (audit trail, etc).

Any other tips or best practices that anyone would like to share?

If a user deletes a file they can recover it themselves for up to 14 days (this is set by default).

Using the web client the user can select "User Profile" icon from the toolbar and then select the "Managed Deleted Items" under the "Management" section.
