Like Joram mentioned it seems to be a problem with the database connections. Are you using the default Explorer and REST app settings for this? It's using DBCP by default. You might want to try something like C3P0 to see if it solves your issue.

Best regards,

Connection settings / amount of connections. Whats your connection pool settings? I would look into that direction (however … pretty much a shot in the dark)

Yes. The databases are the same, with same settings. I simply import a working database dump and a non-working database dump.
The working dump is when I put everything up in production. The non-working dump is after a couple of days it accumulated some process and tasks.

Yes. I am using the default Explorer and REST. The REST has no problem at all including successfully connect to database of course. Only the Explorer stuck. We are using mysql, I dropped the same mysql-connector jar to the lib folder of both REST and Explorer.
What is C3P0?

C3P0 is a connection pool (like dbcp, BoneCP, …). Once you go in production it's quite mandatory for performance reasons.

Anything specific to C3P0 that makes the explorer need it but rest-api is still lightening fast?

No, no specific differences. Just a way to assure that it's not caused by a database connection issue.
