After much pondering, study, and screwing around with my win-bloze box I have figured out my problem:

1. Verzion is a horrible ISP that is a serious PITA. Alfresco was not the cause of my network issues.

2. In the alfresco.bat file there is a "-server" argument. On my Win XP machine iwth JSP 1.6.05 this argument causes tomcat to bomb out. As soon as I delete this argument everything is ok.

Alfresco B running on another Win XP, JDK 1.6.05 machine that I have does not have this problem. I will havew to look at its startup script to see if it has this argument.

Something is definitely going on - after attempting to start alfresco once, my network stack gets hosed up and I actually need to re-boot. I'm installed alfresco on other winxp machines, but not this particular version.
