Is almost certainly due to an old JDK - which one is active on your system?

I suspect that might also be causing the UTF-8 encoding issue in the test class.

My software configuration:

JDK 1.5.0_11 (JDK 5.0)
Eclipse: 3.4.1
Ant: 1.7.0
Tomcat: 6.0.18
Subversion 1.5.5

I can upgrade to jdk 1.6, but I don't think it will work.

In Eclipse For the ADMLuceneTest.java error.   Make sure the file's "text file encoding" is "UTF-8" rather than any other.

Personally I don't include any of the SDK or ExtensionSamples when building Alfresco in Eclipse and it builds O.K.   (And I used that wiki page to get started).

And from the ant command line it builds correctly.   My JVM is 1.6.0_11.

And its also worth noting that every public build of Alfresco has passed its unit tests.    So it must build correctly.

Finally, I have to give up the community edition and change to enterprise, thanks god and money, the Enterprise's SDK works now! however, I haven't try the source code.

BTW: where to download the enterprise source code? I only found the sdk from customers web site.

Alas, i just trapped into the same pitfall, trying to build HEAD on Windows XP, using the command shell.

However, my SDK is pretty current:

C:\usr\src\Alfresco-HEAD\root>javac -version
javac 1.6.0_12

and also the encoding seems to be fine: (from ant -verbose …):

   [javac] '-sourcepath'
    [javac] 'C:\usr\src\Alfresco-HEAD\root\projects\repository\source\java'
    [javac] '-target'
    [javac] '1.5'
    [javac] '-encoding'
    [javac] 'UTF-8'
    [javac] '-g'
    [javac] '-source'
    [javac] '1.5'

But the compiler run fails at the well known location:

   [javac] C:\usr\src\Alfresco-HEAD\root\projects\repository\source\java\org\alfresco\repo\search\impl\lucene\ADMLuceneTest.java:465: unclosed character literal
    [javac]         mlText.addValue(Locale.CHINESE, new String(new char[] { (char) ('é¦™' + orderTextCount) }) + " é¦™è•‰");

Well, see if i can fix this… :roll:

Well, see if i can fix this… :roll:

Eventually i was able to build HEAD by replacing the offending line with

mlText.addValue(Locale.CHINESE, new String(new char[] { (char) ('香' + orderTextCount) }) + " 香蕉");

with some chinese chars which hopefully mean "Banana" and not something vernacular :mrgreen:

I still wonder if it's only me who has this problem - i suppose that particular line of code came in with SVN revision 12395 from 15.12.2008

See if i manage to run the JUnit tests now….
