I have a requirement to allow more than one person to "vote" on whether a document should be approved. I can move the document into a "Pending Approval" workspace and invite multiple people to the space, but I need to be able to keep track of each persons vote and when everyone has voted, the docum

I think in v1.3 you'll have to develop custom code to implement your requirement. v1.4 is going to introduce Advanced Workflow features backed by jBPM. The process definition language and extensions should support this behaviour.

I have also struggled with getting the results I want/need with just "simple workflow" so its GREAT to hear of the plan for more robust functionality, especially backed by jBPM.

Do you have any idea of what the functionality will consist of and the timeframe?

I need a story to tell my users while they use what we have for now.

Since the 1.4 preview was released today….soon?

I am excited about this. My company's workflow is a bit too complex for Alfresco's current "Simple Workflow" and would need customization. I downloaded jBPM, installed it, and went through their demo. I like the idea of being able to design the workflow using a graphical editor that uses a flowchart, since I've been defining our process/workflow in Visio anyway.

Current we have a single document that is used from the time we get an order until the system is installed and handed over to support. We are looking at breaking this behemoth of a document up into smaller parts. It could take months for our process to complete. Managers want to see at-a-glance what the state is of all active workflows, how long they have been in that state and who is assigned the next task to move the process forward. The jBPM demo demonstrated just such a scenario (with an ugly UI, but hey it was a demo). I hope jBPM integrated into Alfresco will be able to accomplish this.
