What you want to do is exactly what the instruction gives you. Once you have done that, go to the Services admin console in windows and set the service to autostart. And change to the proper account that Alfresco should run under. That account is preferably a non admin account but with proper access to the Alfresco installation and the alf_data directory. You may need to add some more rights, like start as a service.

Peter Löfgren

Even I tried on my windows machine through services.msc and make status start automatically on window start.
it still starts only tomcat not alfresco.

any more input on this ?

Then it is most likely something that goes wrong when you start alfresco as a service.
Have you checked alfresco.log, or some of the tomcat log files. When you start as a service, configure the log4j.properties (in webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes) so that the logfile is to an absolute path.
log4j.appender.File.File=C:/mylog/alfresco.log

Then make sure the custom-repository.properties (shared/classes/alfresco/extension) and the value dir.root is pointing to an absolute path.

Now try to start again and see what the logfile says.
