Hi wjstone,

you wrote that alfresco does not respond after stopping? If it isn't a typo this is perfectly right.

If you have jdk v6 you can ommit the "-XX:CompileCommand=exclude,org/apache/lucene/index/IndexReader\$1,doBody -XX:CompileCommand=exclude,org/alfresco/repo/search/impl/lucene/index/IndexInfo\$Merger,mergeIndexes -XX:CompileCommand=exclude,org/alfresco/repo/search/impl/lucene/index/IndexInfo\$Merger,mergeDeletions" settings in the startup script "alfresco/alfresco.sh" (at least the comment in the script says so) and then these warnings are gone.

If alfresco doesn't show up after starting the service, go inspect the log file "tomcat/logs/catalina.out" (if you use tomcat) for error messages and search the forum/wiki/net for info about the error.

Most of the time this helps

Common trouble sources (as far as I know) are
- java memory settings
- port problems (another app has allocated the 8080 port)
- database or storage-settings are not customized or incorrect
- the database jdbc-driver is missing

most of these points are covered in the installation guide and in some wikis or forum hints.
