While the AVM supports these kinds of features, they're not yet exposed via the Web Client UI. Instead you might develop a UI Web Script (see http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Web_Scripts for details) that allows the user to select two AVM nodes, and then uses the AVMSyncService (http://dev.alfresco.com/resource/docs/java/repository/org/alfresco/service/cmr/avmsync/AVMSyncService.html) to compare them.

One thing to note - the AVMSyncService is primarily designed to generate diffs between directory trees rather than create sub-file level diffs, so depending on what you're trying to do it may not be enough by itself.
