Alfresco not coming back after some minor changes

We've changed some network settings on the server, and after a reboot, Alfresco doesn't come back up in a decent way.We've been running Alfresco for over a year on this server without problems (its Debian), and now after hours of searching the best thing to come up with is the error below, any help

It appears that the Alfresco database is corrupted - do you have a recent backup available that you can restore (see http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Backup_and_Restore for details)? Before restoring I'd suggest taking a full backup of the current repository first, just in case your backup is also corrupted (backing up the current repository won't necessarily make it easier to get back up and running, but at least it will help to minimise data loss).

Now the bigger question here is how the database became corrupted, and although that's normally quite rare (ignoring outside influences of course!), the following log file entry points to the likely culprit:

16:55:21,068 INFO [domain.schema.SchemaBootstrap] Alfresco is using the HSQL default database. Please only use this while evaluating Alfresco, it is NOT recommended for production or deployment!

One of the reasons HSQLDB is not recommended for use in production is it's tendency to corrupt itself and/or Alfresco. While HSQLDB does its best to support transactions with full ACID characteristics, there are cases where it's unable to do so, virtually guaranteeing corruption.
