We're looking for a way to do exactly this for Word and hopefully other MS Office formats too - did you get any useful answers?

I am not sure if there is anything out of the box. However, I am thinking one way to implement this could be -

Create a custom JAVA action which will write predefined template content into the MS Word document and store it.
Have this action configured in the rules for all the "MS Word Document" uploads.
