Hello,

The Alfresco permissions framework is currently part of the Profressional/Enterprise Network release of Alfresco available at http://www.alfrescosoftware.com If you request a download or a login for the online demo, you can try setting up spaces exactly as you describe.

However after many discussions and listening to the comments from the community a permissions framework is being implemented for Open Source Alfresco - we agree that without it the open version is not hugely useful beyond a very small user base. Therefore this will be available in the next release!
