Installing Alfresco over Tomcat 6.0

I have Apache Tomcat installed on a server, I want to install Alfresco. What version of Alfresco do I need to download?

Download any WAR version and drop it into your WEBAPPs.

You'll have to configure your database and install openoffice.

Just as an aside: it may well go fine, but I've seen a couple of problems crop up
with Tomcat 6.0 which never occurred with an equivalent installation in
Tomcat 5.5 , and I have the impression that Alfresco is currently developed
against version 5.5. So if you have the choice, Tomcat 5.5 is possibly a
better bet for the time being.

IÃ‚Â´ve read in the forums that for Alfresco ECM/DM tomcat6 is fine, but that if you want to use Alfesco WCM you have to use tomcat 5.5.

I use tomcat6 AND tomcat5.5 with Alftresco 2.1/2.9X ECM/DM and the results are the same: OK.

Anyway, as of now, AFAIK tomcat 5.5 is the official recommended version for Alfresco.

Thanks for the Tomcat suggestion. I will go back to 5.5. I also had a question about install/config docs. I deployed the WAR, but when I follow the documentation, I don't see the extensions directory with all the configuration files. I also didn't see the path for placing the MySQL connector/J file. Any suggestion? Is there a document that has the complete steps?

just create the directory, It works for me.

I unzipped the WAR under \apache\Tomcat5.5\webapps\alfresco, that did work. But the .properties files were not there. Is the db configuration file in WAR file, or do I need to create it?
