I have the same issues:

1) Is there instructions about how to make file alfresco-community-tomcat-1.3.0.tar.gz? This will be very helpful, please.

2) I compiled source from svn, but have no idea at all about the deployment such as what I got, and where to put them.

I am sorry, not realy replying to your problem , but posting a related problem I am facing even to get to step 1.

I am not able to checkout the source code for alfresco :

Using this svn co svn://www.alfresco.org/alfresco/HEAD but I constantly get
the following message :

unknown host "www.alfresco.org"

Can u help ? How did you cross this step ?

I have just tried exactly the same command you are using and it seems to be working fine.

Could it be your firewall/network settings preventing you to get to alfresco.org?
