Hi all,

a) Is current community release (Alfresco 2.9 beta & WCM 2.9 B, dated 09 Dec 2007) stable enough to form basis of a site going into production? Any suggestions?
b) For a site going live in couple of months what would the community suggest – to go with 2.1 release or 2.9B?
c) In 2.9 release what has got changed? Is it core or is it add on’s of new features? Any URL where I can find the release notes/differences.
d) Any dates / plan when there will be stable 2.9 release?

Thanks in advance, Any help would be appreciated!
//uh7415

I had a bad experience with 2.9B & WCM combination you are about to try - the basic problem was that
it was almost impossible to create two web forms, since when you edited one, it's data were saved and
used when you edited the other. Because the root element of the forms wasn't the same it caused a whole
content managment to break.

I would recommend 2.1 if there weren't bugs resolved only in enterprise version (for example - the users's sandbox
preview sometimes stops working after delegating content to staging sandbox). If you'll discover some stable
and working version of Alfresco and WCM please let me know since our project is actually in big problems thanks
to Alfresco&WCM low stability and buggy behaviour. I am sorry to say so but that's how it is for now.

Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience - did you try the latest HEAD code?

To be clear: 2.9B was not a "beta" release. It was the second "labs" release - i.e. not suitable for production environments. We will be releasing v2.9 Community in "final" form in the near future, but I don't have a date to give you.

If you're attempting to deploy Alfresco in a stable production system, you should really consider the Enterprise versions. These have been certified on a number of software stacks and also come with dedicated support channels.

If you're going live in a couple of months, and want to stick with Community, I'd go with v2.1 - unless there's a compelling reason why you need any of: Multi Tenancy, Project Collaboration Spaces, or enhanced WCM deployment introduced in v2.9.

Thanks,
Mike

It has been some time since this post and I was wondering if there is now a stable release.

I latest version of 2.9 that I can find is 2.9B and in april MikeH refered to a soon to be released more stable version.

I am looking for a stable version of Alfresco + WCM to use on a very low budget private project - can anyone suggest what version that would be?

Labs 3B is out now and it contains pretty much all of the fixes for 2.1, 2.2 and 2.9 branches. For WCM it should be the most solid community version, the instability of 3B is likely to be in the new functionality such as the share interface.
