The only unofficial performance metrics are the one I did a while ago: http://www.jorambarrez.be/blog/2012/06/28/the-activiti-performance-showdown/

To be honest, as an open source lib, we don't really know who are using Activiti… we know there are some big users out there (definitely + 500 users) … but we simply never ever hear those stories.
