parseXMLDocument from webscript?

It's nice that we're able to access AVM nodes via Javascript, but I can't figure out whether it's possible to do something useful with them by actually getting the content contained within in a nice format (such as returned by parseXMLDocument in rendering templates). Is there a way to do this that
